Mga Bagay na Hindi Magkakabagay: Ricky Lee’s Kung Alam N’yo Lang Book Launch

Image
I’ve been seeing this man quite a lot (three times I think is a lot), and it marvels me that I never fail to learn something new each time I see him. The great Ricky Lee once again held an event for his workshoppers , readers, and other followers as he launches a new book, Kung Alam N’yo Lang , and dubbed it Mga Bagay Na Hindi Magkakabagay . The book was actually released in December, I think (I remember the pre-order links were all over Facebook). It was also introduced to the public back in January when I got my copy signed by the author as well as the illustrators. I am so glad that I didn’t skip the opportunity to what Ricky Lee has to say since his talk mainly addressed the writers (oh yeah, that’s me!). Ang manunulat ay may dalawang trabaho—ang makapagsulat ng kwento na makakapagdala ng himala para makakita ang mga bulag, at ang ilantad ang mga nagpapanggap na bulag. Ricky Lee shared a story on how Ate Guy (the superstar Ms. Nora Aunor ) used to always want to go out and explor...

Scarlet Heart Ryeo: Wang So Broke My Heart in So Many Ways

Image
This reaction might be well too late since the Kdrama in question was aired last year, but please--I just saw it (I just had the time). I want to steal this opportunity to tell you how Wang So broke my heart. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo was aired in August 2016, another historical drama that would probably push me to the endless pit of slumber if it was a book. But then, I doubt it, because Koreans really have this distinct way of creating visual media that would crawl into your veins and pierce your heart. Ouch! Scarlet Heart is set during the Goryeo era, featuring the royal household of Taejo, its founder. Now, I'm not going to tire you with the details of the story, except for the romance between Hae Soo and Wang So, the fourth son of Taejo, and how he ripped of my heart in so many ways. A lonely prince yearning for a mother's love. Yeah, well, in the drama, Wang So is just so full of angst. He most of his early life being the adoptive son of another royal family, alleg...

Wonut: Your Donut in a Waffle

Image
I've always wanted my waffle savory - tuna waffle is my ultimate favorite. Sometimes I like it with banana and peanut butter. But to top it with green tea or blueberry or the classic Bavarian filling which is my ultimate favorite when it came to donuts ? You're kidding me, right?  But then it's no joke. Because there's actually a food kiosk that offers exactly that. Wo-nut isn't exactly the newest pasalubong craze in town since it has been in the business for three years. But it's the first time that I've heard of it as it opens its newest branch at the SM City Taytay. people lining up for free waffle This happened last Saturday when a priest was also invited to bless the newly opened business and they've given away free donuts to the first 50 customers. I'm not sure if this is also new to you, but according to the company's executive vice president, Angelica Castillo, they already have several kiosk around Metro Manila, and most of them are lo...

Spend a Feel-Good Evening at the Ruins Food Park Project

Image
If you are in search of a new place to hang out, brace yourself! Ruins Foos Park Project is now open to provide you with simply the best of everything you need for a relaxing weekend.  Ruins Food Park Project is a newly established food park in Metropolitan Makati - it used to be an old parking space converted into a place where you and your friends could make it your new "tambayan." The ambience gives you that feel good vibes, because of the fresh air, good music and, of course, food!  So what can you possibly expect when you come to this food park? Let me tell you what I had. 😄 1. Variety of Food. Since it is a food park, expect different kinds of food, from Vietnamese to American (burgers!), and even shawarma. There's food for dinner and also for light snacks, as well as stalls that serve alcoholic drinks.  [caption width="548" align="aligncenter"] Complimentary food from Pho Yoh. The fried spring rolls are called chagio, and the fresh o...

My takeaways from The Legend of the Blue Sea

Image
Legend of the Blue Sea's final episode was already aired a few days ago, yet my Facebook feed is still packed with stillshots of this legendary Kdrama. I am originally a Do Min Joon - Cheon Song Yi fan (Kim Soo Hyun is ❤), but then I figured the Heo Joon Jae - Shim Cheong Yi tandem is also quite adorable. Besides, I could no longer deny that Lee Min Ho is actually one, handsome oppa. :) So, after giving myself sometime to accept the fact that the Kdrama I've been looking forward to every weekend has finally ended, now I am ready to share with you guys some life lessons Legend of the Blue Sea taught us.  There's more to people's history. Heo Joon Jae is a con artist - we all know that. Diving deeper into the story would tell us why he became a con artist in the first place. Though he does something bad for a living (and it actually allowed him and his friends to live a luxurious life), his compassion towards other people, especially Cheong Yi was quite remarkable. Does ...

Ricky Lee's Kung Alam N'yo Lang: The Making and Book Signing

Image
This is the second time I attended a Karl Castro and Ricky Lee event. The first one was back in May last year, as they talked about their works and collaborations in The Secret Life of Books , along with other people in the writing and self-publishing industry. There were a lot of great insights that I've heard from that, which all became valuable to me as I journeyed in my writing and self-publishing thingy (I still have a hard time calling it a career sometimes, tbh). So now, that the great Ricky Lee has launched yet another literary masterpiece, there was no way I am going to miss it. This is despite the short notice and my unfamiliarity with the venue.  Groufie with the author and illustrators Kung Alam N'yo Lang is intended for kids age 9 and above, though the cover says Mga Kwentong Pambata Para Sa Mga 'Di Na Bata . It consists of four short stories with illustrations done by Kenikenken , Diigii Daguna , Jether Amar ( Saving Sally ) and Ivan Reverente . It reminded ...

MMFF 2016: Die Beautiful

Image
Die Beautiful is one of the MMFF 2016 entries that caught my interest because of the best actor award that Paolo Ballesteros acquired at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Besides his talent in the make-up transformation which he is now famous for, Paolo also proved to be a brilliant actor. Seeing this movie made me understand why he soooo deserves the title.  Die Beautiful is about Tricia Echevarria  and her struggles as a gay who aspires to be a beauty queen despite the constant losses in the pageants (he always sucked at Q&A) and an extremely homophobic father. I'd say the movie mirrored the big-time struggles of gay people, on how everyday is a constant fight against the judgmental society and the continuous justification of their place in the community. The choice of words in the script, and not to mention the superb acting of Paolo Ballesteros and Christian Bables (Barbs, I love you and I need a friend like you!) made the story real and relatable.  I lik...
